Overview
Type advantages are the foundation of every battle in EvoMon. Understanding which types are strong or weak against others is essential for building winning teams.
Type Effectiveness Basics
EvoMon has 8 elemental types: Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Ice, Rock, Dark, and Ground.
Each type has:
- Super Effective (2x damage) against certain types
- Not Very Effective (0.5x damage) against certain types
- Immunities — Some types take zero damage from specific types
Using super-effective moves is the single most important factor in winning battles.

Dual-Type Interactions
Some EvoMon have a single type, making matchups straightforward. Dual-type interactions multiply:
- If a move is super effective against both types: 4x damage
- If a move is super effective against one type but not the other: 2x damage
- If a move is resisted by both types: 0.25x damage
Example: Fire move vs Grass/Ice type = 4x damage (2x × 2x)
Building Type Coverage
A good team should cover multiple types offensively:
- Fire + Water + Grass covers most matchups
- Electric handles Water types that resist Fire
- Ice provides coverage against Grass and Ground
- Rock covers Fire and Ice weaknesses
- Dark is niche but useful against Psychic-type bosses
Aim for at least 4 different attacking types on your team.
Defensive Type Synergy
When building your team, consider defensive type synergy:
- Fire + Water — Each covers the other's weakness
- Electric + Ground — Ground is immune to Electric attacks
- Grass + Fire — Fire covers Grass's weakness to Ice
- Avoid stacking types with shared weaknesses (e.g., multiple Grass-types lose to Fire)
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a type with no weaknesses?
No, every type has at least one weakness. Dark comes closest with only Fighting and Bug as weaknesses.
Do STAB moves override type effectiveness?
STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) gives 1.5x damage on top of type effectiveness. A super-effective STAB move deals 3x damage.
What's the best attacking type?
Fire and Water are the best offensive types — they hit the most common types super-effectively.
