Overview
Understanding the type chart is the single most important skill in Evomon. Type matchups determine whether your attacks deal 2x damage (super effective), 0.5x damage (not very effective), or 0x damage (no effect). This guide covers every type interaction in the game with complete tables and strategic advice.
How Type Effectiveness Works
In Evomon, every attack has a type and every EvoMon has one or two types. The effectiveness multiplier is applied based on how the attack type matches against the defender's type(s):
- Super Effective (2x) — The attack type is strong against the defender's type
- Not Very Effective (0.5x) — The attack type is weak against the defender's type
- No Effect (0x) — The attack type cannot damage the defender at all
- Neutral (1x) — No type advantage or disadvantage
When a defender has two types, the multipliers stack. For example, a Fire attack against a Grass/Ice EvoMon deals 2x × 2x = 4x damage.

Type Strengths and Weaknesses Summary
Fire Type
- Strong against: Grass, Ice
- Weak against: Water, Ground, Rock
- Resists: Fire, Ice, Grass, Fairy
- Best Fire EvoMon: Flamewyrm, Emberpup → Infernox
Fire types excel on Lava Island where Grass and Ice spawns are common. Their weakness to Water makes them risky on Ocean Island.
Water Type
- Strong against: Fire, Ground, Rock
- Weak against: Electric, Grass
- Resists: Fire, Water, Ice, Steel
- Best Water EvoMon: Aquashell, Tidalurk
Water is the most versatile offensive type, hitting three common types for super effective damage. Pair with Ground to cover Electric weakness.
Grass Type
- Strong against: Water, Ground, Rock
- Weak against: Fire, Ice, Flying, Poison
- Resists: Water, Grass, Electric, Ground
- Best Grass EvoMon: Leafguardian, Mosswing
Grass has the most weaknesses but excellent resistances. Use Grass types as defensive pivots that resist Water and Electric attacks.
Electric Type
- Strong against: Water, Flying
- Weak against: Ground (immune)
- Resists: Electric, Flying, Steel
- Best Electric EvoMon: Thunderfang, Voltstrike
Electric types have only one weakness — Ground — and Ground attacks are completely immune against them. Thunderfang is the fastest EvoMon in the game.
Ice Type
- Strong against: Grass, Flying, Ground
- Weak against: Fire, Rock, Steel
- Resists: Ice
- Best Ice EvoMon: Frostwing, Glacifang
Ice has excellent offensive coverage but terrible defensive typing. Use Ice moves on non-Ice EvoMon for coverage rather than relying on Ice-type defenders.
Ground Type
- Strong against: Fire, Electric, Rock, Poison
- Weak against: Water, Grass, Ice
- Resists: Rock, Poison
- Immune to: Electric
- Best Ground EvoMon: Stonegolem, Tremorix
Ground is the best counter to Electric types. Ground attacks hit 4 types super effectively, making it one of the best offensive types.
Flying Type
- Strong against: Grass, Bug
- Weak against: Electric, Ice, Rock
- Resists: Grass, Bug, Fighting
- Immune to: Ground
- Best Flying EvoMon: Skyraptor, Windwing
Flying's Ground immunity makes it an excellent partner for Electric types. Use Flying to pivot around Ground attacks aimed at your Electric EvoMon.
Rock Type
- Strong against: Fire, Ice, Flying, Bug
- Weak against: Water, Grass, Ground, Fighting
- Resists: Fire, Flying, Normal, Poison
- Best Rock EvoMon: Stonegolem, Crystallix
Rock is defensively strong but has many weaknesses. Keep Rock types away from Water and Grass attacks.
Dark Type
- Strong against: Ghost, Psychic
- Weak against: Fairy, Fighting, Bug
- Resists: Dark, Ghost
- Best Dark EvoMon: Shadowclaw, Nightveil
Dark types are essential for countering Psychic-type bosses. Pair with Fairy resistance for defensive synergy.
Fairy Type
- Strong against: Dark, Dragon, Fighting
- Weak against: Steel, Poison
- Resists: Dark, Dragon, Fighting, Bug
- Best Fairy EvoMon: Mystifae, Pixiedust
Fairy is the best defensive type with four resistances and only two weaknesses. It shuts down Dark and Dragon attackers completely.
Dual-Type Interaction Examples
When an EvoMon has two types, the effectiveness multipliers multiply together:
| Defender | Fire Attack | Water Attack | Electric Attack | Ice Attack |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grass/Ice | 4x (2x × 2x) | 0.5x × 0.5x = 0.25x | 1x | 0.5x × 0.5x = 0.25x |
| Water/Ground | 1x | 0.5x × 1x = 0.5x | 2x × 0x = 0x | 0.5x × 2x = 1x |
| Electric/Flying | 1x | 1x | 0.5x × 0.5x = 0.25x | 1x × 2x = 2x |
| Fire/Rock | 0.5x × 0.5x = 0.25x | 2x × 1x = 2x | 1x | 2x × 2x = 4x |
Dual types can create 4x weaknesses that are devastating if hit, or 0.25x resistances that make certain attacks nearly useless.
Building Teams with Type Coverage
A strong team covers as many types as possible offensively and defensively. Use these principles:
- No shared weaknesses — Avoid having two EvoMon weak to the same type
- Cover top threats — Every team needs an answer to Water, Fire, and Electric
- Use dual types — Dual-type EvoMon cover more matchups with fewer team slots
- STAB matters — Same-Type Attack Bonus gives 1.5x damage to matching moves
Example Team Coverage
| Team Slot | EvoMon | Type(s) | Covers Offensively | Weak To |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lead | Thunderfang | Electric | Water, Flying | Ground |
| Pivot | Leafguardian | Grass | Water, Ground, Rock | Fire, Ice, Flying |
| Sweeper | Flamewyrm | Fire | Grass, Ice | Water, Ground |
| Tank | Aquashell | Water/Ground | Fire, Rock, Electric | Grass |
| Special | Shadowclaw | Dark | Ghost, Psychic | Fairy, Fighting |
| Coverage | Frostwing | Ice/Flying | Grass, Ground, Dragon | Fire, Rock, Electric |
This team covers all major types and has no overlapping weaknesses that a single opponent can exploit.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most important type matchup to learn?
Fire > Grass > Water > Fire is the core triangle. After that, learn that Ground beats Electric and Electric beats Water — these come up in almost every battle.
Do dual types take 4x damage?
Yes, if both of a dual-type EvoMon's types are weak to the same attack. For example, Grass/Ice takes 4x from Fire attacks (2x × 2x). These 4x weaknesses are extremely dangerous.
What does STAB mean?
STAB stands for Same-Type Attack Bonus. When an EvoMon uses a move that matches its type, the move deals 1.5x damage. Always prioritize STAB moves for your EvoMon's primary damage.
Which type has the fewest weaknesses?
Electric has only one weakness (Ground) and Fairy has only two (Steel, Poison). Both are excellent defensive types when paired with the right partners. For more EvoMon details, see the Evomon Wiki type pages.
